Why we built Metrcs

Metrcs started as the tool Flow Digital needed to run its own clients. Here's the problem we kept hitting, what we built, and why we're opening it up.

We built Metrcs because running marketing for our clients meant checking six platforms every day and rebuilding the same reports every week. Flow Digital is a marketing agency in Bali. We run ads, websites, email and content for businesses across hospitality, real estate, health and more, and reporting was taking time that should have gone into the work itself.

The problem: six logins, one question

Every client wants to know the same thing: is it working? Answering that meant opening Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, Google Analytics, Search Console, Klaviyo and Instagram, copying numbers into a sheet and explaining why the platforms disagreed with each other.

The reports we sent were accurate, but they arrived after the fact. By the time a client read that cost per lead had doubled, the money was already spent.

What we wanted instead

We wrote down what a good reporting tool would do for us, and it was a short list:

  • Have every client's numbers ready each morning without anyone exporting anything.
  • Flag the clients that need attention, so we fix problems the day they start.
  • Write the weekly summary for us: what worked, what slipped, what to do next.
  • Track spend against budget and tell us where the month will land.
  • Give each client their own private login, so they can check in whenever they like.

Nothing we tried did all of that without a lot of setup, so we built it. You can see the result in what Metrcs is and what it connects to.

How we use Metrcs every day

Metrcs now runs every Flow Digital client, and select partner agencies use it for theirs. The team starts each morning on the agency view, opens any client that's flagged and fixes it in the ad account. Weekly client meetings run from the saved snapshot. Clients log in to their own dashboard, many of them from their phone. There's a fuller walk-through in how agencies use Metrcs.

The biggest change has been in the conversations. When the agency and the client look at the same page, meetings stop being about what the numbers mean and start being about what to do next. Business owners get the same benefit, which we cover in Metrcs for business owners.

Why we're opening it up

Every agency, freelancer and business owner we talk to has the same problem we had. Metrcs was built by marketers who use it every day, for anyone who runs marketing, and we want to share it.

We've started with select partner agencies and are opening more spots soon. Join the waitlist to be first in line, and tell us on the form which platforms you need. It shapes what we build next.
